Shullsburg, in the 1820's, was an Irish prospectors settlement called New Dublin. Located near Galena Illinois, Water Street Place Historic Inn is your inviting small town lodging accommodations near Chicago IL, Milwaukee WI, Twin Cities MN, Quad Cities IA, Des Moines IA, and St. Louis MO. Our bed & breakfast style historic inn occupies the second floor of a beautifully restored 1883 building. Each of the 4 guest rooms have all the modern conveniences and expectations built in, yet the historic ambiance is carefully preserved and maintained.

The main floor of Water Street Place is beautifully restored. Prominently featured is the 1900's solid brick, walk in bank vault. The vault was the focus of attention during a violent 1925 bank heist. Five charges of nitroglycerin were used to blow open the doors. Now, enjoy the ambience of a wonderfully restored by-gone era.
